Rochester, MN, USA, November 27, 2016 - Resoundant, Inc., the developers or Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE), are pleased to introduce clinical research of MRE for the brain at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting at McCormick Place, Chicago, November 27 to December 2.
"Although MRE for liver applications will continue to be Resoundant's main focus, the clinical research being conducted on brain MRE is very compelling," said Troy Ziegler, Chief Operating Officer at Resoundant.
For assessing intracranial tumor stiffness, particularly meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, and vestibular schwannomas, MRE research is showing considerable clinical value in discriminating firm tumors from more-easily resected soft tumors, and is being used extensively at the Mayo Clinic for surgical planning.
In addition, another clinical study on brain MRE demonstrated use of a technique known as slip interface imaging. MRE showed excellent resolution and repeatability in preoperatively determining the degree of tumor-brain adhesion in patients with vestibular schwannomas. Tumor adhesion is a major factor affecting the difficulty of a surgical case and risk to the patient.
"It's been wonderful to see the research being done by multidisciplinary teams around the world on brain MRE, including our own research here at Mayo Clinic," said Ziegler. “There's a lot of excitement around this application.”
Attendees can visit Booth #6405 at North Hall B to learn more.
